OXID eSales released a BETA version of the new 4.5.0 version, with signficant updates to the default user-interface.

Public users can take the 4.5.0-Beta version for a spin.  The /admin area is also up for demo.  Please help us keep this public demo clean and setup only sensible test data in the /admin area.

I finally got a preview of the OXID eShop 4.5 at the Mail-Order-World, and the first impressions have been certainly impressive!  The main upgrade is a new look & feel, which will forever change the image of the OXID e-Commerce software.  The brand-new template not only looks great, but also has incorporated some jazzy Javascript controls (guessing JQuery based).

All in all, it is great news for future OXID shop-owners, as they can kick-off shops with even lesser effort than they need currently.  A huge pat on the back for the developers from Freiburg and Halle!

We hope the release will be made in October-2010, but here again, the official line is: “Please be patient, since last bugs and fixes have to be ironed out”.  Hence in every probability the release will happen only in December.  Never mind when the software will be ready – we just want to be positively surprised!

If you are a web-design company creating templates (in Bitmap/Photoshop/GIMP or Vector/Illustrator/Inkscape formats), the following 6 pages will serve you as guildelines.

These templates are based on the default OXID templates that shop with the CE distribution.  They have the following improvements.

• Ad and branding free – all marketing logos are gone
• Rounded-corners for browsers that support CSS3
• Standard-font used is Arial 12px
• Choice of color-themes (6 released today)

Installation Instructions

Installation of these templates is very easy – follow the below 2 steps.

1. Unpack the ZIP files into the <shop-webroot>/out/ directory (should be where the basic folder is).
2. Edit the <shop-webroot>/config.inc.php file and set the $this->sCustomTheme variable to point to the new template folder.  ex. $this->sCustomTheme = “basic_nobrand_Amazon”.

You may be the type of business that changes Terms and Conditions often.  If you have to edit them often, it is easy to use pure HTML (alternatively, if you get your shop implemented by euroblaze, using a WYSIWYG Editor) to edit your Terms and Conditions from the OXID back-end.

Editing of such static pages as Terms & Conditions, shipping conditions, returns polity etc can best be done using the inbuilt OXID CMS System which is shipped with the product.  In the Admin-area, follow Customer Info > CMS Pages > Terms & Conditions.
